You're spot on... When I align the base note (vanilla) from my soap, to my lotion, with my Creed Original Santal, it's 2-4 hours of top and heart notes unlike with many of my other Creeds in the collection, with different base notes, I'm only looking at 1 to 2 hours of consistent fragrance from the top-to-heart notes...

Actually it’s more detailed than that.
In the shower, double cleanse (bar soap and shower gel), shower get should have fragrance notes your perfume has. For example jasmine/vanilla.
Then lotion body AND hands with a lotion with the same or aligned notes like Cedarwood or Amber.
Then find a hair perfume, and eau de parfum’s with same notes from the start e.g Jasmine/vanilla. Preferably, then layer two Eau Du parfum’s (don’t spray too much).
Spray behind your ears, décolletage, inside of your forearm, behind the knees and your upper back!
